Autophagy in the cancer-immunity dialogue

نویسندگان

چکیده

Autophagy is quintessential for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis in all eukaryotic cells, explaining why both normal and malignant cells benefit from proficient autophagic responses. Moreover, autophagy intimately involved immunological control transformation, tumor progression response to therapy. However, net effect activation or inhibition on natural growth therapeutic tumors evolving immunocompetent hosts exhibits a considerable degree context dependency. Here, we discuss complex cross-talk between immuno-oncology as delineated by genetic pharmacological approaches mouse models cancer.

munity-related GTPase M) and NOD2 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2)] results in the development of immune-related diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease [2] . Autophagy represents an ancient immune defense strategy present in flies. Importantly, as flies lack an adaptive immune system, the function of autophagy in cellintrinsic innate immunity can be...

Autophagy: Cancer, Other Pathologies, Inflammation, Immunity, Infection, and Aging

Autophagy plays a direct or indirect role in health and disease. A simplified definition of autophagy is that it is an exceedingly complex process which degrades modified, superfluous (surplus) or damaged cellular macromolecules and whole organelles using hydrolytic enzymes in the lysosomes. It consists of sequential steps of induction of autophagy, formation of autophagosome precursor, formati...

Roles of Autophagy and Autophagy-Related Proteins in Antifungal Immunity

Autophagy was initially characterized as a process to digest cellular components, including damaged cell organelles or unused proteins. However, later studies showed that autophagy plays an important role to protect hosts from microbial infections. Accumulating evidences showed the contribution of autophagy itself and autophagy-related proteins (ATGs) in the clearance of bacteria, virus, and pa...

Virus-Induced Autophagy in Innate Immunity

When a virus invades a host cell, autophagy is triggered to maintain cellular homeostasis. Virus-induced autophagy is a double-edged sword in the antiviral function of host innate immunity. Unlike apoptosis, autophagy plays a different role in cell survival or inducing cell death. This mini-review summarizes recent developments in our understanding of the antiviral roles of autophagy in host in...
